Freedom Toaster Bugs

KNOWN Issues and Workarounds:

  1. Machine won't boot from power-up without a keyboard. [Knysna]
    • Symptoms: The BIOS prompt shows "Searching for devices" (or similar wording), and cycles back to cold boot endlessly. Never gets as far as Grub/Lilo (which?) prompts.
    • Solution: Take a PS/2 keyboard with you. I presume a USB keyboard might work as well, but have not tried.
    • Comments:
      • This might be an odd BIOS setting, but I couldn't find any such setting during my (hasty) look. --MikeMorris
      • Isn't the toaster cabinet supposed to have a keyboard in it? -- Stefano Rivera

BUGS:

  • There is no reason for (x)inetd to be running (with services such as echo, chargen etc...)
    • Not yet, since AFAIK none of the current batch of Toasters are networked; however, once there are networked machines you likely will need some of the xinetd services. No harm in leaving it in the config, given the (overkill) power of the hardware and the demands placed on them, IMHO --MikeMorris
    • Mine is. None of the network services installed other than httpd is required. I fired sshd up additionally for remote access - much less of a mission than having to unlock the case and plug a keyboard in. Also allows for downloading the images to other machines in office to write ISO images there --JacoKroon
